CHS Free Diaper Program

CHS Free Diaper Program

Camden Healthy Start families pick up free diapers on the 3rd Monday of each month on Diaper Day.

Nearly 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their children, often forcing them to make a choice between buying diapers and paying for food, rent or utilities like heat. On average, low-income families spend $936 per child on diapers every year. Unfortunately, many assistance programs don’t cover the cost of diapers.

In an effort to help families provide this basic necessity and keep babies clean and healthy, Camden Healthy Start (CHS) has a free diaper program for clients. Each month, CHS distributes 40 free, brand name diapers to each eligible family. This program allows parents to put those extra dollars toward other necessities and ensure they have clean diapers to send their child to daycare. Parents who can’t afford to send diapers to daycare have to stay home with their child instead of going to work or school.

“Camden Healthy Start is committed to providing a level of assistance that will allow families in need of diapers to put that money toward food, milk or other areas that compete for their dollars,” says Sherolde Smith, Program Services Manager at Camden Healthy Start.

On the third Monday of each month, CHS distributes diapers at its Camden location (808 Market Street, 2nd Floor). Eligible families can pick up diapers between 10 am – 12 pm and 2 – 4 pm. In order to receive free diapers, clients must meet at least once monthly with their Family Support Specialist or attend a workshop.

This free diaper program is part of a national initiative that aims to give low-income families access to more affordable diapers. The national program, developed in partnership with Jet.com, allows non-profits to purchase high quality diapers at affordable prices to distribute to families in need.
